Oreon, the innovative Dutch developer and manufacturer of high-end LED grow lights for greenhouse horticulture, presents its new fixture at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Germany. Oreon’s Dutch Powerhouse, called Monarch, produces a light output of up to 3100μMol/s, with an efficiency of 3.1 μMol/J. This makes the Monarch the most compact and powerful LED fixture on the market. Oreon was the first to introduce LED lighting in greenhouses in 2009, and now, more than 10 years later, Oreon once again presents a world-class LED fixture.

Within a year after the start of the first cultivation, the successful cannabis grower Medisun from Ontario is expanding again by more than 9 acres. As in phase 1, Medisun has opted for water-cooled LED fixtures from Oreon. “This LED lighting offers exactly what we need,” according to Laust Dam, COO of Medisun. “The lamps provide a lot and uniform light and cause minimal shading. In addition, the climate in the greenhouse remains stable thanks to the water-cooling. This lighting contributes to a good and high-quality harvest every time and that is what it is all about. The renewed choice for Oreon was therefore quickly made".

HortiDaily: Are LEDs the future of the industry?

He's convinced that ultimately, the whole horticulture industry will switch to water-cooled LED lights. Being a producer of the product that doesn't come as a surprise, but Jan Mol of Oreon has a story behind the products. "It originated in the search for a more sustainable alternative. We succeeded in that, both in terms of usage figures and longevity. In cultivation, we also see the advantage of having your lights produce significantly less heat. You have much more control over your climate, and the plant balance is better."

The research at the ‘Proefstation voor de Groenteteelt’ (Belgian Research Facility for Growing Vegetable) is part of the Interreg project "Glitch".

Oreon participates in project 'Eggplant year round in balance with LED' project at the Delphy Improvement Centre

For eggplant, lighting will become increasingly important for year round production. The aim of this research is to develop a cultivation strategy with LED lighting in eggplant cultivation that is future-proof and is in line with the transition towards fossil-free greenhouse horticulture. This gives growers technical and plant physiological knowledge to be able to supply eggplants all year round. Various crop measurements are made with regard to growth and plant load.
